Emmy Question eBook Jeannine Auth
Our child is going through a situation with a parent abusing alcohol. I felt this dealt well with the denial and lying that can surround an addition. I've attended many Alanon and celebrate recovery meetings and felt this is a great resource for kids to read about something that they may be experiencing. I read the entire thing before giving it to our 10 year old because I wanted to make sure it was appropriate in the way it was presented! Very well done! Our child felt it was very relatable! If you are on the fence, go for it. Very safe read for kids while also dealing with the unsafe situations they can be in when a parent is actively living any addiction! I like how the author emphasized that the child is not alone going through this! Many families share the same struggle unfortunately!Product details

Emmy Question eBook Jeannine Auth Reviews
As a licensed mental health therapist, specializing in children, Emmy's Question has been an invaluable tool in my practice. The author, Jeannine Auth, has turned one child's unfortunate life experiences into a learning tool for all--children and their parents!
The book is suitable for children ages 8-12 ,but compelling enough to keep the interest of older youth and parents. It's a must read for my clients who may be experiencing a similar situation. The reasonable price of the paperback copy allows me to have several on hand for lending.

As an adult child of an alcoholic, I though this book was especially well-written and insightful. It takes you into the life of dear Emmy who is struggling to understand the mother she loves who continues to battle her alcoholism. The story is written in a way that does not brutalize Emmy's mom. Rather it is written through Emmy's loving eyes as she struggles to understand and protect her. Not only does her mom's alcoholism isolate her from Emmy, but the parents of Emmy's friends who have met Emmy's mom choose to isolate their children from Emmy and her mother who exibits bizarre behavior. In the end, Emmy finds she is not alone. There are other children like herself who are growing up in similar - - and sometimes worse conditions. She also meets adults who grew up with alcoholic parents. She receives some much-needed counseling where she learns that she is in no way responsible for her mother's disease.
I had my children read this book and then we discussed it. I felt it was important for them to understand that sometimes children who seem "different" may be living in very difficult situations. We had some very deep and heartfelt discussions about this book and it touched each of our hearts. This book is so real and so well presented that I believe anyone who reads it can benefit greatly.
This thoughtful and well-written book had me crying and cheering for this young girl as she struggled to understand living with an alcoholic mother. How I wish this book had been available to me in earlier years as I talked with distraught family members dealing with the destructive effects of addiction on family life.
One parent to whom I recently gave a copy of this book shared with me that it took him two weeks to get through it, because it brought him to tears so frequently. However, when he, with some trepidation, passed it on to his 11 year old daughter, she read it straight through in one evening. When she emerged she gave him a big hug and said, "Now you know how I felt."
Ministers, teachers, counselors, and everyone who has any interaction with families struggling with alcoholism will be enlightened and encouraged by the message of this book- that children who get support from family members and the proper help from professionals can become strong and confident.
This truly is a book that can make a significant difference to children who have an addictive parent and all those who care about those young lives.

Good book for someone at the right time. May hit a little too close to home, but good book to discuss a difficult topic.
Very poignant and truthful.
Read this with my 11 year old Granddaughter. It opened up good conversation about her situation and I am so glad to have found it!
We need more books like this to let children of addicted parents know they are not alone. It helped my grand-daughter in so many ways. She is 8 years old and an avid reader. She read it over two days and then said, I'm ready to go to a counselor. I especially liked the ending of the book which was not a fairy tale happily ever after...but fairy with hope for the future. Recommend this to help children whose parents are addicted.
