Imagine having a best friend you've never met. That's the relationship Hannah Cho has with Nick Cooper. When their older siblings met at a rock concert several years ago, sister Grace suggested that Hannah might like to connect with Nick. She did and they have talked or instant messaged daily ever since. She lives in southern California, he lives in Las Vegas. She's been a super studious girl, planning to attend UCLA. Nick is in a rock band. When her spring break trip to a leadership conference Washington DC is unfairly given to another girl, she's angry. Grace who recently broke up with her boyfriend, has an internship with perks. Still feeling guilty because it was her getting trashed that derailed an original road trip to meet Nick a couple years ago, she works a deal with her boss to get a discounted rate at a fancy Vegas hotel and off they go to surprise Nick.
The surprise is on both best friends. Nick isn't what Hannah thought and has kept a few secrets. She's not entirely blameless when she is honest with herself. There was one night where she could have said something different and it has returned to haunt her.
Following them around Las Vegas is quite the adventure and when Hannah most needs to break from her 'perfect daughter' mindset, she finds a way to do so. This is a sweet and adventurous tale about a couple who have to learn the hard way that sometimes there's more to honesty than meets the eye. It's a great choice for school and public libraries where teens like offbeat romances with unexpected twists.

In Real Life A Novel eBook Jessica Love Reviews

I just want to hug this book! I've read it multiple times and love it just as much every time. It's funny, it's frustrating, it's real, and it's romantic. Hannah and Nick are perfectly imperfect but oh so right together, and you can't help but root for them. The Vegas setting is spot on and makes you feel like you are right there with them. I also loved all the side characters, and want a book about Lo or Frankie next. If you're a fan of Stephanie Perkins, you should definitely check out this book!
Jessica Love's delightful story takes one deep into the muddled, often over-thinking mindscape of adolescence. It's a blast to traipse through the decision making processes of teens where logic and emotion constantly battle it out. And what better surreal battle ground is there than Las Vegas! In Real Life is endearing and made me want to go back to high school for a do-over armed with the courage Nick and Hannah teach us to embrace through their journey.
If you're looking for a feel good to the tips of your toes read that captures the spirit of modern day romance, look no further. Jessica Love's witty page-turner of a debut about two online best friends, Hannah and Nick, who finally meet in real life and discover that there may have been a few secrets that have been hidden is a fresh, fun addition to the shelves this Spring and Love a brilliant new voice in YA. I found myself laughing out loud numerous times and slowing down my reading at the end so I could savor it longer. I can't wait to read whatever is next from this author!
I was nervous opening this YA book since I'm quite a bit past the YA demographic. But OH how it brought me right back! Love was gifted at creating Hannah's voice (as well as the other characters) and I felt truly connected to her. I didn't always agree with her choices, but the suspense for me to want her to get what she wanted was expertly crafted.

I thought I'd read a few chapters a day, but read it in 2 days, as I couldn't put the page turner down. The creation of teenage drama, suspense and lust/love was just at the right level to keep me turning pages. The backdrop of the Vegas Strip was interesting in an of itself, as I've never really considered it a place conducive to much teenage behavior (well, at least legal- but the characters fake ID's helped them out a bit).

All the characters you would expect were there, Hannah the "good girl", her two friends/sister who push her on and aren't quite as "good", and a handsome boy and his fellow friends. None of them disappointed.

I enjoyed the transition from online to real life in Hannah and Nick's relationship. It was a little confusing, choppy, and hard for the characters, as it often is in real life.

Overall, it was a refreshing fun read which really should be added to your spring break suitcase or your bag for the beach this summer!
I really loved Hannah and Nick's story! As a southern Californian, I'm well-acquainted with not only Vegas, but driving to Vegas, so that was a cool aspect of the story (and very accurate, I might add!). Reading Hannah's struggles as she came to grips with meeting her online best friend, and discovering things weren't exactly as they seemed, was very familiar teenage territory. I think every teenage girl can relate to not knowing exactly what to do in a relationship, or what to do to BE in a relationship, at one point in her life. Overall, the story really resonated with me, and if you're a fan of young-adult fiction, this is a read you'll love!
Oh, how I love this book! It's Catfish set in Vegas, and it so good. Hannah and Nick have been online besties for years and (they think) they know everything about each other. When Hannah surprises Nick with a visit in Sin City, she learns the startling truth He hasn't been completely forthcoming with her. In Real Life is full of delicious angst, its pacing is fantastic, and its characters, despite their dishonesty with each other and, often, themselves, are utterly endearing. In Real Life is a whirlwind night in Vegas, full of those often romantic, occasionally awkward moments that make contemporary YA romance so fantastic. It boasts a fair amount of humor, too, thanks to Hannah's outstanding voice, and its final pages... *happy sigh* I was lucky enough to beta read an early draft of this story a few years ago, and even on second read, Hannah and Nick's online and in real life (!) relationship gave me all the feels. Definitely pick this one up!
